Three high quality yearlings purchased by Mark Kavanagh at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale will become the latest members of the Mark Kavanagh Racing Club team. The yearlings, by proven sires Zabeel and Exceed and Excel and promising freshman Fastnet Rock, join the 9 horses already in the Kavanagh Racing Club team after the retirement of 4 time Group 1 winner Divine Madonna. Costing well over $1.5 million in aggregate, Mark is confident that the new recruits will provide a fascinating insight for Club members into the process of developing a yearling into a racehorse. Zabeel (NZ) - One Dream Colt Lot 278 is a bay or brown colt by Zabeel from One Dream sold by Coolmore Stud. Mark's fondness for Zabeel is evident from the exploits of Club horse Maldivian which was the only horse he purchased from the Easter Sale in 2004. While Maldivian cost only $195,000, the One Dream colt sold for $650,000 + GST.
Zabeel is the sire of 1001 runners, 727 winners and 111 stakeswinners including last year's Melbourne Cup winner Efficient, Fiumicino, Savabeel, St Reims, Don Eduardo, Sky Heights, Zonda, Might and Power, Octagonal, Dizelle, Railings, Greys Inn, Reset and Subscribe.
One Dream is an unraced mare by Danehill. She is a sister to stakes placed Lord Dane, three-quarter-sister to Eliza Cove (dam of DIAMOND COVE), half-sister to SYDNEY'S DREAM (dam of CHARGE FORWARD), MARSKIN (dam of DONNA NATALIA), SETTLERS COVE (dam of KIDMAN'S COVE). Fastnet Rock - Suggestive Colt Lot 401 is a bay colt by Fastnet Rock from Suggestive sold by Stuart Ramsey's Turangga Farm for $360,000 + GST. The bay colt is very much in the mould of Danehill son Fastnet Rock, whose first yearling crop have been widely praised and much sought after.
Fastnet Rock is a dual Group 1 winner of the VRC Lightning Stakes and the MRC Oakleigh Plate, as well as twice at Group 2 level and two Group 3 races. In his career he amassed $1,724,100 in prizemoney and now stands at stud at Coolmore Stud in Australia and Ireland.
The colt's dam, Suggestive is already a Group 1 producer with VRC Emirates Stakes winner Sky Cuddle being one of her progeny. She is also the dam of Group 3 winner Sky Love. This is the family of stakes winners Pottinger, Groucho, Acecay, Twilight Cove and Count To Zero. Exceed and Excel - Arrabeea (NZ) Filly Lot 495 is a bay filly by Exceed and Excel from Arrabeea (NZ) sold by Kia Ora Stud for $475,000 + GST. The bright bay filly reminds Mark a lot of Believe'N'Succeed, the Club filly which is also a Group 3 winner of the Blue Diamond Prelude.
Exceed and Excel has had a superb start to his stud career, with 5 stakes winners and 2 stakes placed already from his first crop. His latest stakeswinner was Outdo at Flemington on Anzac Day.
Arrabeea is a stakes winning Zabeel mare which is a half sister to Marie Claire, also a stakeswinner. Arrabeea won the Group 3 BTC Doomben Classic and the VATC Thoroughbred Club Stakes, both at Group 3 level. Arrabeea and Marie Claire's dam is the stakes winner Trotanoy, a half-sister to stakeswinners Monarch Star and Silver Stardom and to Pride of Goodwood, the dam of Group 1 winner Pride Of Rancho. All the youngsters wil have a few week's spell before going to the breakers for their first steps in being educated as a racehorse. |

In conjunction with Cyberhorse, Mark Kavanagh, trainer of Group 1 winners like Divine Madonna, Maldivian and Devil Moon, is delighted to provide an opportunity for people who are interested in racing to experience the enjoyment of racing a team of 10 superb racehorses. The Club's horses are all trained by Mark and include proven Group 1 performers Maldivian and Devil Moon as well as a number of up and coming horses. The Mark Kavanagh Racing Club is similar in concept to a football club where the trouble and expense of putting the team on the ground each day is arranged by the Club, while the Members can follow the team's performances via extensive online updates. Rather than buying a share in each horse, Club members pay an annual subscription which for only $99 entitles them to access all the information about the Club's horses as well as enjoying a wide variety of social activities. Like a football club, we are constantly recruiting new "players" so the Mark Kavanagh Racing Club will continue racing for years to come. You are welcome to review the site to find out all about this innovative concept. If you like the idea, you can join the Mark Kavanagh Racing Club here.
